Polesden Lacey with the Easter Tiger and Bunny

Polesden Lacey was our family destination today with the promise of an Easter Trail on offer. Once we got there we realised it was way more than that. It was busy but the extensive grounds could take the number of people. The boys started off with face painting, we queued for about 15 minutes. The talented artists would be painting until 4.00pm in the afternoon, having decorated countless cheeky faces. Our youngest wanted to be a tiger, the eldest settled on the Easter Bunny (when he was told that monkeys just don't work for face painting)!
They had various garden games including an egg shy which the boys loved, and they enthusiastically threw plastic bean bags at the carefully balanced eggs. Also on offer were giant jenga, football croquet, space hoppers, giant chess, quoits, and garden dominoes, none of which we had time to try. We also didn't manage to be at the right time and place for the story telling, as there was just too much to do! We did however manage the Easter Trail collecting stamps on their cards, noting down the number of pictures of eggs and chicks and solving the riddles. The trail took us through the beautiful Polesden Lacey grounds including the children's playground, with the wooden "assault course" and chalk boards.
The simplest ideas are often the best and whoever thought up the Easter Egg rolling on the South Lawn is pure genius. They played quite happily rolling plastic eggs down a small hill whilst we enjoyed our picnic. The boys were slightly disappointed when we told them they couldn't roll the eggs down the huge steep hill, but having climbed through the hedge at the bottom (and then the 3 ft wall beyond that) on a previous occasion to retrieve a ball, I didn't fancy doing the same for a plastic egg in front of quite so many people!
The Polesden Lacey staff have really thought of everything. Deck chairs and blankets are provided, and there are binoculars for the kids. The volunteers were out in force ensuring that all visitors had a wonderful time. The weather was fantastic, and when the sun is shining on the glorious Downs it is a fantastic sight. I really don't think you could beat our experience! Many thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers who made our day possible.
